The X5 seats five passengers, and the cargo area offers up 22.9 cubic-feet of space on the non-hybrid models, whereas the hybrid sacrifices a bit of space, offering up 17.6 cubic-feet. Adaptive cruise control is still optional, but most of the essential safety features you'd expect in a modern luxury car are standard. BMW also touts an improved Intelligent Personal Assistant, and you can also spec a semi-autonomous driving system. On the technology front, the X5 includes 5G connectivity, as well as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, along with the requisite Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This is the latest BMW model to adopt the new infotainment setup, which includes iDrive 8 and the all-new BMW Curved Display, which places the infotainment and instrument cluster displays behind a seamless sheet of curved glass. The interior of the 2024 X5 also gets some pretty significant changes, both in terms of design and technology. Every X5 bar the sDrive40i has standard AWD, and power goes to the wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Power output stays at 523 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque, which allows for a 0-60 time in the low four-second range. This X5 uses a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, which has also found its way into countless other BMW models, and even the new Range Rover. BMW touts an electric-only range of around 40 miles, which is okay, but not the best in class.Īt the top of the food chain for the 2024 X5 is the renamed M60i xDrive. This also gives it a pretty sprightly 0-60 time of 4.6 seconds. In other words, the plug-in hybrid X5 has 10 more hp than a base M3. Total system output is 483 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. This model uses the same twin-turbo I6 as the 40i, but it also gets an electric motor, and a larger 25.7 kWh battery pack. Connected Navigation offers you completely intuitive operation when programming destinations. Personally, we love the xDrive40i, which pumps out 250kW and fits the bill for a heavy-hitter. The four-cylinder turbo-diesel xDrive25d offers 170kW and 450Nm, while the xDrive30d relies on a turbo-diesel V6 for 195kW of power and 620Nm. It is a sign of how good the X5 truly is, what with all the charming materials used across every corner of the cabin, the broader presence of technology, extra space throughout, and what is a dynamic line-up of engines. Making your way up from the likes of the entry-level models in the X Series to the X5 is almost like chalk and cheese, and that is no disservice to those other suave models. Nowadays, standard kit starts with sat-nav, wireless phone charging, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with DAB+, adaptive LED headlights, heads-up display, keyless operation, dual-zone climate control, heated front sport seats, power tailgate and much more, especially when you factor in advanced safety aids. It’s always had a distinctly more ‘sporty’ feel than other SUVs in the same segment, yet over time the German auto-maker has continually developed the X5 into a more tech-savvy and luxuriously comfortable unit. Now more than 20 years after its launch, the X5 has continued to get better with nearly every passing moment.
